Jands Vista Control Surface - The 4 Modifier Buttons

Updated on

Understanding the 4 colored modifier buttons is crucial to operating lighting during any experience. You may not use these buttons often, but when pressed, can completely change how the control surface operates. Here is a breakdown of how each button affects the control surface when pressed.

Where to Find Modifier Buttons:

You can find the modifier buttons in the top right hand section of the control surface above the menu screen.

Modifier buttons are meant to be used like the "Command", "Control", "Option", or "Alt" keys on your keyboards. When pushed alone, they do not have any particular function, but when held down in addition to pushing a select or play button, they can change the functionality of the control surface.

When holding down a modifier button, you can double check the function that you are about to perform by looking at the cue screen. The cue screen will change to display the function you are about to perform.

The Red modifier button

The Red modifier button is used to select a cuelist. When holding this modifier button down, you can press the play button on any cuelist to select instead of play the next cue. Cuelists normally have a select (star) button above them. This method is an alternative to select if another select (star) button is not available.

Another way to access this function is to hold the "Shift" key on your keyboard.

The Yellow modifier button

Please do not use this button unless you have experience with programming or editing cuelists.

The Yellow modifier button is used for programming purposes. When holding this modifier button down, press the play, or select (star) button on a cuelist to open in edit mode. In edit mode, you can change any value for any fixture. If used improperly, this button can undo many hours of work that someone has done, so please use this only if you have experience with Jands Vista programming or you have assistance from a Central Tech Team member.

Another way to access this function is by holding down the "Command" key on the keyboard.

The Green modifier button

The Green modifier button is used to release a cuelist or cue. When holding this modifier button down, press the select (star) button on a cuelist to release it. When holding this modifier button down, press the play button on a cuelist to back up one cue.

Another way to access this function is to hold down the "Option" button on your keyboard.

The Blue modifier button

The Blue modifier button is used to jump to any cue in a cuelist. When holding this modifier button down, press the select (star) button on any cuelist to open a menu that shows the full cuelist in it. You can choose whether you would like to cue to play with the programmed "cue timing" or the "live timing" that is set. Select the cue that you would like to jump to by clicking on the cue and selecting "Ok".

Another way to access this function is to hold down the "Control" button on the keyboard.
