Patching into the Back of a CL5/QL5 Console

Updated on

QL5

On the QL5 console, there are 32 inputs that can be utilized by instruments, mics, FX pedals and many other devices. To patch one of these devices, start by plugging the instrument or device into any of the open inpits on the console. If a device needs to be converted from 1/4" to XLR, use a DI box to do so.

On the front of the console, choose an open channel for the new input. Any open channel will work, but please do your best to ensure similar instruments are grouped together. E.g., when adding a guitar, add the channel next to other existing guitar channels when possible. After finding a good location for the new input, press the Select (Sel) button above the channel's fader.

On the selected channel, tap the gray box that is directly to the left of Dynamics 1. When the channel is completely empty, this box will show "----". When an input has been patched by default, this box will show "Dante-(number)".

Using the menu on the left side, scroll up until you see the Input tab. Then, tap the input where the instrument is plugged into on the back of the console.

Before exiting out of the menu completely, name the channel by tapping the text box and typing an appropriate name for the channel. Channel names have character limits, so you may need to abbreviate.

After these steps are completed, the channel should now be patched and ready for a FOH engineer to dial in Gain, EQ and Dynamics.

CL5

On the CL5 console, there are 8 inputs that can be utilized by instruments, mics, FX pedals, and many other devices. Most of these inputs are already being utilized by Video and Spotify. However, if an open input is available, you can begin patching by plugging the instrument or device into the open channel. If a device or instrument must be converted from 1/4" to XLR, use a DI box to do so.

Using the menu on the left, scroll down to "OMNI/PB Out".

This will bring up the screen shown below, allowing you to press the input number where the instrument or device is plugged into on the back panel.

OMNI = Console Panel Input.

Before exiting out of the menu completely, name the channel by tapping the text box and typing an appropriate name for the channel. Channel names have character limits, so you may need to abbreviate.

The channel should now be patched and ready for a FOH engineer to dial in Gain, EQ and Dynamics.
