Slack Basics - Weekend Support Chat

Updated on

Slack is an application installed on the ProPresenter machine that is used as the main form of communication with Broadcast, other campuses, and to stay up to date on information involving the current weekend.

Opening the application

To open Slack, find the Slack logo in the Dock, and single click on it. You can normally find this at the bottom of the desktop.

#weekendsupport Channel

The #weekendsupport channel is the chat room that we use during each weekend experience and while testing satellite.

To communicate in the #weekendsupport channel, type in the bottom bar, and hit the enter key on the keyboard.

Direct Messages

You can direct message with any campus or person in Slack. This helps to keep information not involving everyone in the #weekendsupport channel to a minimum.

There are 2 ways to open a new direct message in Slack.

(1) Click on the campus name, or person's user name in the left hand bar, under "Direct Messages"

(2) Search the campus, or person by click on the "+" sign next to the word Direct Messages.

In most cases, if a Direct Message is sent to a Central Tech Team member, it will ping their cellphone like a text message. There is a rotating schedule of on-call Central Tech Team members, and that person is the active person with the name label - First Last - Tech Team.   Or simply ask who is on call in #weekendsupport before private chatting a Central Tech Team member.
